Faro hosts first Mediterranean Tapas Festival

Faro is holding its first Mediterranean Tapas Festival, an event to promote the Mediterranean Diet and the “best food the sea has to offer”.

It started yesterday (September 16) and will be running until Sunday (September 20) in the town’s Jardim da Alameda.

Around 20 restaurants are taking part showcasing a variety of meat, fish and shellfish dishes.

There is musical entertainment every night with a number of local artists and DJs performing.

Also on the agenda are showcooking demonstrations on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting at 7pm. These will provide tips on how best to cook mackerel, croaker, sea bream, and mullet.
The event is organised by Zénite Positivo, a new socio-cultural association founded this year in Faro.

Admission is free, with each dish costing between €4 and €5, and including a complementary drink.

Part of the proceeds will go to help CASA, a support centre for homeless people.

Doors open at 5pm and close at 2am.
