Before the announcement this afternoon that Portugal has registered a new maximum of daily Covid-19 cases (click here), the Algarve University Hospital Board (CHUA) revealed that Faro Hospital has started admitting Covid-19 patients from other regions where hospitals are reaching their limit.
In the last few days, the hospital has admitted five patients from Lisbon and three from the Alentejo.
Right now, the hospital has 60% of what it calls ‘phase two’ of its Covid infirmary filled. However, CHUA boss Ana Castro told Rádio Renascença that there is still room for expansion if needed.
‘Phase three’ includes another infirmary inside the hospital, while ‘phase four’ would involve expanding outside.
However, this would only happen if the situation becomes considerably more serious.
