Sunday saw Faro GNR agents keeping their uniforms on, but taking on the role of Santa Claus nonetheless. They travelled to isolated areas of the borough, delivering gifts to elderly residents they know living on their own. According to the force’s Facebook page, the objective was to “reinforce efforts to show care and empathy to the vulnerable and more elderly population”. The campaign “Care for those who once cared for you” developed following census data that showed there are 44,511 old people living alone, or isolated and in situations of vulnerability in Portugal.
