Faro Camâra and municipal company Fagar have joined forces to fight the palm weevil.
A spokesman from Faro Câmara told the Algarve Resident: “We have identified those palm trees under threat and are applying a treatment to cure and prevent future plagues.”
The treatment to be carried out by Fagar will cost between €100 to €250 per tree, depending on the duration of the treatment and methods used.
“We have already spent around €29,000 but will need a further €36,000 for the felling and burning of the 70 palm trees already identified as irrecoverable,” added the spokesman.
Of the approximately 400 palm trees in the municipality, Faro Câmara estimates that at least 100 will have to be removed.
