The mayors of Faro and the Alentejo town of Almôdovar got together last week to discuss common interests and strengthen their already close ties.
At the meeting in Faro, the two politicians pondered ways of improving transportation between their municipalities and possible collaborations over cultural events.
But education also featured prominently, with both Rogério Bacalhau and António Bota seeking ways for Almodôvar’s youngsters to continue their further education in Faro.
“The goal of this meeting was to create a basis for a closer future between Almodôvar and Faro through mobility and transportation and through the socio-cultural merging of two municipalities that have a common history,” said Bota.
At an informal lunch afterwards, Bacalhau stressed the “contribution” the people of Almodôvar made to Faro – particularly those who settled in the capital.
“It makes sense for us to strengthen our bond to this community that is so close to our own”, he said.
