Faro Airport passenger numbers fell 98% between April and June

The devastating impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the air travel industry has now become even clearer. New data revealed by Portugal’s National Statistics Institute (INE) this week shows that passenger numbers at Faro Airport dropped a whopping 98.8% between April and June compared to the same period in 2019.

In other words, passenger numbers fell from around 2.9 million to just 36,581. Only 408 passengers travelled to or from Faro Airport in April, a number which grew as months passed and the country emerged from lockdown (1,043 in May and 35,130 in June).

The drop was very similar on a national level, with Portuguese airports registering a 97.8% decrease in passenger numbers.
