Faro Airport embarks on ambitious €32.8 million expansion project

Starting a few weeks later than originally scheduled, Faro Airport is this month embarking on its ambitious €32.8 million expansion project, carefully devised to cause the least possible upset to passenger travel.

As the Resident explained in July, the bulk of the work is to be carried out at night, and the airport will remain open throughout.

Designed to make Faro “bigger and better”, the bottom line is that the airport is being equipped to cater for up to 30 plane movements and 4,000 passengers per hour.

Anyone who uses Faro regularly will appreciate this is a vast undertaking.

Works are due to carry through until 2017 and will be in the hands of Portuguese construction giant Mota Engil.
