Faro airport celebrates 40th birthday

FARO AIRPORT first opened on July 11, 1965 and to celebrate its 40th anniversary, a programme of celebrations, including a Big Band concert, was held in downtown Faro last Sunday, followed by a spectacular fireworks display in Largo de S. Francisco. Câmara presidents from across the Algarve, along with high profile business people, attended a special ceremony at the airport last Monday, when the president of Aeroportos de Portugal SA (ANA), Guilhermino Rodrigues, opened a commemorative exhibition entitled ‘AFR 40 Anos – O Tempo Voa’ (40 years of Faro Airport – Time Flies). Photographs, statistics and many interesting facts can be discovered by visitors to the exhibition and there is also the chance to view a film, especially produced for the anniversary. The display is situated close to the information desk in the centre of the terminal’s public area.
