Farmers protest

Hundreds of farmers protested against government policies on agriculture last Friday in Aveiro. In a march that ended at the Agrivouga agriculture fair, farmers appealed to the nation to consume national products and criticised the government for the lack of support in the face of an “ongoing drought and excessive imports”. João Sousa, leader of the Aveiro District Farming Association (ALDA), said: “There are no incentives for farmers to continue working as production costs are becoming unbearable”. He referred to the price of fertilisers, seeds and fuel.
