Rui Duarte, who led SC Farense to promotion from the Campeonato de Portugal to the Segunda Liga last season, has left the club after a run of five games without a win that has left them just five points above the relegation zone.
The former SC Olhanense captain, who led them to promotion to the Primeira Liga 10 years ago, is replaced by Álvaro Magalhães.
The 58-year-old former Benfica player and Portugal international has a wealth of experience, having been in charge at 15 clubs including SC Olhanense (2006-08) and three clubs in Angola.
Magalhães saw his new team draw 1-1 at home to Leixões. Cássio put Farense in front just before half-time but, midway through the second period, the visitors levelled through André Clóvis. To add to Farense’s problems, substitute Alan was sent off in stoppage time just eight minutes after entering the fray.
