Farense in strong position

Back in September, SC Farense lost their only league game in the Campeonato de Portugal Division E when they were beaten 2-1 by Casa Pia (Lisbon) at the S. Luís Stadium.

Last Sunday, the Faro club travelled to the capital and returned south with all three points thanks to a Tavinho goal, his eighth of the season.

Farense are now nine points clear of second place Olhanense and are clear favourites to top the division.

On Sunday, SC Farense entertain Estrela FC (Vendas Novas) at S. Luís Stadium (behind Faro Hospital) – kick-off 3pm.

The outstanding game of Round (“Jornada”) 19 was at Moncarapacho where Olímpico do Montijo raced into a 4-1 lead after an hour. Moncarapachense hit back with goals from Pedro Neves (66’) and Nelson Landim (77’) but could not find an additional strike and went down 3-4.

Os Armacenenses had a surprise 2-0 victory at Pinhalnovense thanks to first-half goals from Márcio Fernandes (5’) and Nuno Moreira (30’).

Louletano travelled to the Azores to play Operário and returned with all three points. A penalty in each half had the score at 1-1 until three minutes from time when Thales Possas popped up to grab the winner for the Loulé team.
