SC Farense rounded off their home games in the Campeonato de Portugal with an impressive 4-1 victory over local rivals Louletano.
Leo Tomé opened the scoring after 12 minutes before the visitors levelled 10 minutes later through Juan Costa. Jorge Alves restored the home side’s lead 10 minutes before the interval with André Vieira and José Ferreira adding second-half goals.
The Division ‘E’ winners travel to the Azores this weekend for their final game before finding out who they will meet in the play-offs for promotion to the Segunda Liga.
SC Farense’s problems off the pitch have surfaced again as they appeared in Olhão Court last Monday following a lawsuit filed in 2011 by a former employee.
Farense will have to file an insolvency plan in the next 60 days to pay about €5 million to creditors, according to the decision of the creditors’ meeting the insolvency administrator said. The meeting was attended by 14 creditors, 12 of whom voted in favour of accepting the insolvency plan suggested by the club, including the former employee who filed for insolvency.
Farense’s president, António Correia, in a statement to the journalists, named the abstainees – former footballer Carlos Costa and the Clube Naval Gymnasium of Faro – and expressed “sadness” that “a former player and an institution in the city of Faro” have made that decision.
