Liga NOS: Gil Vicente 0-0 Farense
Farense failed to find the back of the net once again in last weekend’s 0-0 away draw against Gil Vicente.
Jorge Costa’s men have been unable to score in three of their last five matches. This will have to change very soon if the Lions of Faro want to hold onto any chance of avoiding relegation this season.
The first 45 minutes of their clash with Gil Vicente saw the home side create the most scoring chances, with Pedrinho almost converting on a powerful shot from outside the box which was denied by the left post.
Frenchman Léautey also tried to beat Beto but saw his shot hit the side of the net ten minutes away from the halftime whistle.
The second half came and went with few scoring opportunities for both sides, Licá providing one of the most flagrant chances to give his team the lead only to be denied by Gil Vicente goalkeeper Denis.
At the end of the match, Farense manager Jorge Costa stressed that nothing is lost yet, but the truth is time is running out. There are only four matches left to play, and anything short of a win against V. Guimarães in Faro on Thursday (May 6) could prove a fatal blow, especially considering that Farense will travel to the north to face F.C. Porto next Monday (May 10).
Farense is currently sitting in 17th place with 27 points, behind Boavista (29), Rio Ave and Famalicão (31), and Gil Vicente (32).
