Farense: decisive substitution

Farense boss Rui Duarte may be a young manager learning the trade but his inspired substitution 15 minutes from time resulted in a hard-fought victory.

The Estádio de São Luís in Faro last Saturday witnessed its first Segunda Liga game for two years as promoted Farense started the new campaign against Famalicão in front of 1,600 fans. With three summer signings in the starting line-up, it took the home side some time to settle down but, with the combative Jorge Ribeiro – he was booked along with Famalicão’s José Carlos Rodrigues on the half-hour mark – in midfield, they gradually gained the upper hand.

Farense had to wait until the 79th minute for the all-important goal when substitute Irobiso snatched the winner just two minutes after joining the fray.

On Saturday, SC Farense travel to FC Porto ‘B’ who lost their opening game 4-0 against relegated Estoril Praia.
