Farense bow out

Estoril Praia overcame SC Farense at the Estádio de São Luís, Faro last Sunday to reach the third phase of the Allianz League Cup.

Estoril fielded eight new signings and it was their prowess in front of goal that decided the tie. In the twentieth minute Azerbaijan international Dadashov saw his shot welled save by Farense’s former Portugal international keeper Daniel Fernandes but Roberto was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Farense should have levelled matters ten minutes later when Jorge Ribeiro picked out Fábio Gomes but Thierry in the visitor’s goal pulled off a stunning save.

Estoril had two further opportunities to increase their lead through Aylton Boa Morte (32′) and Dadashov (37′) but Daniel Fernandes was on hand to keep Farense in the game.

The second period saw the home side lay siege to the Estoril goal and Fábio Gomes wasted another great opportunity from Tavinho’s cross. Estoril made the game safe seven minutes from time when Filipe Soares made it 2-0.

SC Farense open their Segunda Liga campaign against FC Famalicão on Sunday 12th August at the São Luís Stadium (behind Faro Hospital), kick-off at 4.00pm.
