Fantastic Mr Figo

The Resident reporter, George Fletcher, was the envy of the office recently when she got up close and personal with Luís Figo, one of the country’s most celebrated personalities, as the Portugal national team limbered up before the friendly against England last week. Figo is revered not only because of his talent at football, but also because of his great efforts for charity.

The superstar footballer made his name at Sporting Lisbon and quickly became a national treasure. The football friendly last week between England and Portugal marked Figo’s 100th national game for Portugal. And despite constant rumours of his retirement from international football, Figo, who plays for Real Madrid alongside his British counterpart David Beckham, is still at the top of his game. Here he is pictured stretching and flexing in preparation for the big match.
