Nobel International School Algarve Primary International section hosted its second family fun golfing morning with international coach Roel Timmermans on Saturday, February 9 at Vale de Milho golf club in Carvoeiro.
Students from Year 3 to Year 7 were invited to attend with their parents and met at the Vale de Milho clubhouse at 10.30am for an introduction from Timmermans and the chance to meet new friends over coffee and cake.
The team for the morning brought together families from Holland, France, the UK, Czech Republic, Russia and Portugal – a reflection of the increasingly international community seen at the school.
The school’s family fun golf mornings are intended to provide an opportunity to try golf at a basic level through a bespoke mini competition and active, physical learning with Roel Timmermans. Students learnt key strokes and body positions and competed a rotation of challenges to test key strokes, followed by a session in the driving range nets.
Students in the primary school have also been introduced to rugby and cricket this academic year, with free-of-charge after-school clubs and masterclasses.
Claire Jones, Head of International Primary, said: “It is wonderful to see our families and children getting together to play sport – it is so important for developing healthy bodies and minds, and for the children’s social development, too.”
Vale de Milho golf course manager Daan de Vlieger, said: “Our club now offers a junior scorecard enabling children to play with their parents or grandparents and to be able to enjoy some genuine competition on our nine-hole course.”
International golf coach Roel Timmermans said: “On these days, our aim is simply to bring the pleasure of playing golf to these children and to get families together. The European Golf College and Nobel International School Algarve are also working together to develop a programme for young players considering golf as a future competitive sport or even as a career.”
