Family fun at the fair

Visitors from across the region were in Lagoa on May 30 and 31 to enjoy the International Algarve Fair held at the Fatacil.

Exhibitors showed off their products, from toys and books to homemade cakes and handicrafts, while demonstrations from the local Lagoa Bombeiros, live music performances, dog shows and a colourful parade entertained the crowds.

Children from the International School São Lourenço were thrilled to be one of the Green Challenge winners, an environmental competition aimed at the international schools of the Algarve, with seven and eight year olds from class three, led by their teacher, Jennifer Kieran spearheading their successful environmentally friendly gym project.

Jennifer Kieran told the Algarve Resident: “The idea came to me from a dream I had when I was about eight. I wanted to power my home using energy created from a dynamo on my push bike; from there we decided on the environmentally friendly gym project using energy from the bikes to power a gym facility.

Lagoa Bombeiros entertained visitors with demonstrations and members of the public were able to view the new essential cliff rescue equipment.

“It was fantastic to see all the children in action and they all loved taking part in the project, now all we need is a financial backer for our brilliant plans!”
