David Lea was last seen leaving Portimão Marina on his boat on August 10

Family calls for help to find missing British man

His boat was found one nautical mile off coast near Alvor

David Lea, a 64-year-old British citizen who has lived in the Algarve for over 15 years, has been missing since August 10.

He departed Portimão Marina alone aboard his boat, Barca Di, and has not been seen since.

His boat has been found one nautical mile out at sea off the coast near Alvor, with no one aboard.

His family are now calling for anyone who might have seen him or know anything to come forward.

According to his sister Julia Heald, David (Dave to his friends and family) is a British citizen with Portuguese residency who had previously lived in Nora near São Bartolomeu de Messines (Silves).

He had been living recently on his boat at Portimão Marina while he looked for a permanent residence along the Algarve coast.

“He sometimes contracted as a Telecomms Engineer but was semi-retired,” Julia told the Resident.

“As far as we know, on Wednesday, August 10 he went out in the boat on his own, which is unusual for him,” his sister said. He has not been seen since.

While his boat has been found off the coast of Alvor, his family are unsure about what possessions were aboard.

“Police have not released this information to us,” Julia told us.

David’s family are in contact with the British Vice Consulate in Portimão, while international criminal police organisation Interpol have also been notified about his disappearance.

His sister adds that David was a frequent customer at Club Nau, a beach bar/restaurant on Ferragudo’s Praia Grande.

If you have seen David or have any information that may be relevant, contact your local police station.
