Families with no daycare places for kids resorting to remote work

Some families are resorting to remote working to be able to stay with children at home due to the lack of places in daycare centres, according to the president of the National Confederation of Parents’ Associations (Confap). “Many families have not been able to place their children,” Mariana Carvalho tells Lusa agency – this despite the government ‘offer’ of free daycare centres in the social/ solidarity sector since last year. The truth behind the measure is that there is a dire shortage of State-subsidised daycare places available, and private nurseries are either full, or too expensive (or both).
