AS IN previous years, Loulé Câmara will distribute Christmas hampers to the poorest families living in the borough. This year, around 1,800 people will benefit from the initiative, a marked increase on last year.
Rice, beans, bacalhau, oil, olive oil, Bolo-Rei (Portuguese Christmas cake), chickpeas, sugar, chouriço, marmalade and tinned fruit are some of the food items to be included in the hampers which are sure to brighten up the homes of these residents.
The distribution will begin on December 19 at 10am in Benafim’s community centre and, on the same day, families in Tôr and Ameixal will receive hampers from their local Junta de Freguesias. Hampers will also be distributed on December 20, 21 and 22 to families from Alte, Salir, Almancil, Boliqueime, S. Clemente, Querença, S. Sebastião and Quarteira.
