Man posed as police agent to enter woman’s apartment
A 48-year-old man has been arrested for a series of crimes including impersonating a police officer and allegedly raping a woman in Portimão in June, PJ police have announced.
In a statement to the press, the criminal police force says the man is suspected of rape, possession of a forbidden weapon and a series of counts of pretending to be a police officer in order to enter the victim’s apartment.
“Using his fake status as an agent of authority, having presented a badge from a criminal police force and equipped with a firearm replica (…) and handcuffs, (the man) forced the victim into sexual acts against her will, leaving her fearing for her life and unable to react,” PJ police say in the statement.
The man, who was due to appear before a judge at Portimão court, was arrested following an investigation which is still underway in order to “identify other possible victims.”
