Several fake euro notes were used to pay for goods at a Faro Airport’s duty free shop on October 21.
A spokesman from the PSP police told the Algarve Resident: “An employee from the duty free shop in the departures area reported the payment of five false 50 euro notes.”
He added that the employee believed that the culprits were Everton football fans, although no evidence was available.
The suspected individuals were not identified or caught and the PSP simply made a report of the occurrence. Many Everton fans were in Portugal to watch a Europa League match between their team and Benfica in Lisbon, which ended 5-0 in favour of the home team.
