A Chilean man was foiled in his plan to steal 80,000 dollars from his 82-year-old grandmother by making his 21-year-old girlfriend disguise herself as the elderly woman and withdrawing money from her account.
The girlfriend, who wore a latex mask, also used a false identity card to try and steal the money.
The plan was only uncovered when a bank worker telephoned the grandmother’s home and learned she was visiting relatives in Venezuela.
“She acted like an elderly woman, was dressed as an elderly woman and moved like one. It was a good impersonation,” said a spokesman from the Banco de Chile in the city of Talcahuano in southern Chile.
The couple was arrested for attempted fraud and falsification of documents and face a maximum of up to three years in jail if convicted.
