ITALIAN AUTHORITIES have seized more than 15 counterfeit classic Ferraris and eight people are being investigated, during a nationwide operation this month.
Guido Geremia, head of the Palermo unit of the Italian financial police, said that mechanics were turning the chassis of Pontiacs, Mercedes-Benz and Toyotas into credible fakes painted in the Ferrari characteristic blood red, which sold for as little as 19,500 euros. The buyers knew that the cars were counterfeits and were simply trying to impress neighbours and other road users, according to Guido Geremia.
