A hotel maintenance worker chanced on what he thought was the find of a lifetime in the false ceiling above one of the establishment’s public conveniences, only to realise later that the stash of €500 notes were all fake.
The paper the money was printed on was too thick, and on one side of the notes someone had written “Euro Disney”. Thus the management of Lisbon’s 4-star Hotel Radisson Blu called in the PSP which is reported to be “trying to identify the owner of the money”. Similar notes have been used, say police, in various frauds.
