RELIGIOUS faith reduces the risk of suicide, according to a new report in the American Journal of Psychiatry. Previous studies also corroborate the most recent findings, namely that those countries with the strongest religious beliefs have the lowest suicide rates. In this latest study, psychiatrists interviewed 371 depressed patients and found that 66 per cent of non-believers had attempted suicide at least once, whereas only 48 per cent of patients with religious affiliations had attempted to end their lives.
