At the end of the 12 regattas which constitute the European Sailing Championships in the Optimist class, Spain’s Luis Cabrera and Italy’s Francesca Bergamo emerged victorious in the boys and girls categories respectively.
Portuguese challengers such as Manuel Macedo and Francisca Pinho performed creditably off Tavira but were unable to challenge for top honours in the face of international competition from five continents.
