Thieves were thwarted in an attempt to steal an ATM machine from the Aquashow water park in Quarteira on August 17.
Three men tried to smash the ATM but fled the scene when the park’s night guards intervened.
According to the police, the men stole a JCB digger from a nearby construction site to smash the ATM and also had a truck to transport the cash machine. The water park has 24-hour security and video surveillance, which aided detection of the thieves.
Since January last year, there have been 24 robbery attempts of ATMs, always using the same modus operandi – a digger and a truck. Police believe the crimes, under investigation, may have been committed by the same gang.
