A plan to smuggle €30,000 worth of cheap Spanish tobacco into Portugal was foiled at the weekend when GNR officers from Guarda, operating in collaboration with counterparts from Salamanca (Spain), found 1,400 boxes of rolling tobacco and a 260-kilo crate of loose tobacco in two trucks on their way towards Portugal. The owner of the consignments is a woman, 47, from Porto.
