Fado singer Carlos do Carmo has made history by becoming the first Portuguese artist to win a Grammy, arguably the world’s most prestigious music award.
The Latin Recording Academy, organiser of the Grammy Awards for works recorded in Spanish or Portuguese, has announced that it will be honouring the 74-year-old with a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award, awarded only to artists “who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”
The list of artists awarded the achievement in the past includes Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and many other musical legends.
The singer of ‘Um Homem na Cidade’ and ‘Lisboa Menina e Moça’ is expected to receive the award on November 19, in a ceremony at the Hollywood Theater in Las Vegas.
