Facebook group denounces thousands of empty properties owned by State

With the government’s more radical plans to fix the housing crisis sending its popularity to new depths, a Facebook group has now formed ‘denouncing all the empty properties owned by the State’ which could so easily be used to provide much-needed affordable rental accommodation. In many cases, these properties have been left to abandon for decades. The new interest in ‘empty’ properties follows the government’s unpopular proposal to ‘coercively rent’ vacant properties that owners are not using. It is an aspect of the new ‘Mais Habitação’ blueprint that has found little support from any sector, and no support from any of the political parties in opposition.
