THE US Grand Prix turned into the most boring race ever with only three teams taking part. A Ralf Schumacher crash in practice revealed serious problems with the latest set of Michelin tyres supplied to seven of the teams. FIA rules forbid tyre changes this season, leading to the manufacturer advising teams not to race. A compromise, involving the installation of an extra chicane to slow the race down, was refused by the organisers with the result that only six cars representing Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi took their place on the grid on their Bridgestone tyres.
