Nine people died on Tuesday January 29 due to freezing or hypothermia in the Siberian region of Tyumen, which has recorded a temperature of minus 17 degrees Celsius, according to Russian health authorities. “During Russia’s freezing winter 223 people have died of hypothermia or freezing,” said a spokesman of the health services to Russian Interfax news agency. The same source added that 4,900 people had received medical care and more than half had to be admitted to hospital due to the cold.
