Extradition decision on football boss

A DECISION on whether to demand the extradition of a corrupt football boss from London to stand trial in Portugal will be reached on November 27.

A hearing to evaluate the extradition of former Benfica President Vale e Azevedo was postponed last week until November 27 by a London court.

At present there are two arrest warrants and associated extradition orders issued for the former football boss, the first following his condemnation to six-and-a-half years in prison and the second for a further prison sentence term of five years.

Vale e Azevedo, who was found guilty of serious corruption and tax fraud charges, has refused to return to Portugal, alleging that he has already carried out the minimum sentence.

But a judge has stated that his term of sentence will vary between six and 18 years in prison.
