TWO MEN were arrested for attempting to extort money from a Romanian girl for the safe return of her identification documents, which she lost at Faro airport.
The men, who were also Romanian, sent a fax to the girl’s mother to let her know that they had found her daughter’s documentation. When the daughter called the phone number, they said that
in exchange for 300 US dollars her documents would be returned. She contacted Faro police, who told her to arrange the meeting. The exchange, which took place at Forum Algarve shopping centre in Faro, was filmed and the two men were subsequently arrested.
