Expo site could be chosen for new cathedral

LISBON CÂMARA is considering building a new cathedral for the city at the Parque das Nações site. Câmara officials met recently with representatives of Lisbon’s Catholic Patriarchy, executives from gas giant GALP Energia and chiefs from the Port of Lisbon Authority to discuss the proposal. According to the minutes of the meeting, Lisbon needs a new church in that part of the city to meet the spiritual needs of the growing community there. A plot of land south of Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa, measuring 15,000sqm, is now being considered.
