AN APARTMENT block that suffered a violent explosion in Setúbal on November 22 has been found to be structurally dangerous because of violations of basic regulations in its construction and could still collapse.
“I don’t understand this building, located in a seismic area has a staircase made of bricks and not concrete” said João Almeida Fernandes, the director of the structural department within the LNEC, the national civil engineering laboratory, adding “There are no guarantees that the building will not collapse”.
