A new law published today by the government extends expiry dates on official documents to December 31 this year.
Documents included are ‘cartões de cidadão’ (Citizens Cards), driving licences, medical certificates, visas (including residency visas), licences and authorisations.
This decision has been prompted by the impossibility of renewing documents due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
The country’s registry and notaries offices (Conservatórias) continue to be ‘closed for business’ for everything but births and deaths – but they are beginning to ‘take appointments’ starting from May.
