Experts discuss future of Portugal and the EU

Two debates focusing on “The Future of Portugal and the EU” are being held at the FNAC stores in Faro and Guia on March 30 and 31.

Led by Algarve-based consultant Jack Soifer, the events will discuss several threats Portugal and Europe face, especially if ‘Brexit’ moves forward.

As Soifer points out, international experts forecast that by late 2016 “exports and public revenue on taxes in Portugal will fall, while imports, unemployment and interest rates will increase”.

Other speakers will include António Branco, rector of the University of the Algarve, and Elidérico Viegas, president of hotelier association AHETA.

The debates will be arranged around themes featured in two books – ‘A Defesa de Causas’ by António Saraiva, the chairman of Portugal’s Confederação Empresarial, and ‘Portugal Pós-Troika? Economic Democracy?’, written by eight authors from five countries.

Both debates begin at 9pm. Admission is free.
