Experts broach subject of Covid vaccine boosters for over-12s – and shots for five year olds

Fátima Ventura, director of Infarmed’s Scientific Evaluation Unit, has broached the subject of booster shots for 12-year-olds and “an extension” of Portugal’s vaccination campaign to the over-5s. This is the first time either of these possibilities have been aired so publicly. Ms Ventura suggests the ‘reinforcement doses’ for over-12s should be given within six months of their second shots. She has told the Infarmed meeting ongoing in Lisbon, that the ‘extension’ of Portugal’s rollout to the over-5s should come by the end of this year. Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca are all due to officially present requests for authorisation for the use of their products in the over-5s.
