Expert legal advice

DANIELLE SHRIMPTON was born in Sutton Coldfield in the UK but left when she was 13 years old.

She has been in the Algarve since then, having been educated at the International School and then returning to the UK to do her A levels and study law at Warwick University. During that time, she missed her home and family in Portugal.

On returning to the Algarve, Danielle was employed by a legal firm in Faro and learned the basics of Portuguese law. Over the next few years, Danielle tried her hand at various other occupations, but law was always her first love.

She married in 1985, also taking Portuguese nationality, and in 1998 worked for the British Consulate for the next five-and-a-half years as a Pro-Consul with notorial powers. This gave her an excellent grounding in many different types of legal issues.

It is an extremely complicated process to qualify in Portuguese law and Danielle had to give up working in order to put in the necessary time and effort to complete her law exams here. Having obtained her legal qualification (Licenciatura), she then applied for the required licence to practice law through the Chamber of Solicitors in Lisbon.

Following a further 18-month legal course, she became a fully fledged Portuguese lawyer in the summer of 2007. Now she is sharing her legal practice with another lawyer, who has added enormous experience to the firm and both partners complement each other very well.

She has an office in the historical area of Lagos and deals with all manner of legal issues, including conveyancing, wills, tax and commercial law. Being a trained diplomat, she believes strongly in her own abilities and confidence, offering potential or existing clients an initial half-hour consultation, the cost of which is deducted from the final account.

She has three children and her eldest daughter is also studying law at a British university. Danielle would be delighted to hear from you regarding any legal issues you may have.
