Expat driver kills pedestrian on EN396 near Quarteira

A driver described by police as a foreigner killed a 72-year-old Portuguese man on Sunday evening on the narrow EN396 road between Quarteira and Loulé.
According to police, the retired man was walking down the side of the “extremely narrow and poorly-lit road” towards Quarteira when the driver hit him with his car. The driver immediately called the authorities and waited for them to arrive.
The incident is being treated as an accident for the time being, as the side of the EN396 road is “very narrow” and “at the time of the accident the sun had set and there was hardly any light”, making it hard for the driver to the see the pedestrian, Faro GNR’s Lieutenant-Colonel Azevedo Palhau told us.
