AN EXHIBITION of work by three local English artists is currently taking place at the Slave Market in Lagos until May 15. The artists, who all live in the western Algarve, are Caroline Wood, Kate Kinnair and Lynne Keighley, and have all exhibited in Lagos and other venues for a number of years.
Caroline Wood has had a home in Portugal for over 10 years and moved here permanently in 2002. In the early 90s, she completed a City and Guilds course in Interior Design and Decorative Paint Techniques. When she came to Portugal, she took up watercolour painting with Gabriela Clark and, more recently, oil painting under the expert tutelage of Brendon West. Caroline tries to keep her paintings free and loose, thereby maintaining a freshness that captures the clarity of the light in the Algarve.
Kate Kinnair has been resident in the Algarve since 1999 and is based in the Lagos area. She paints in watercolours to produce images typical of the region, which are generally painted on location.
Lynne Keighley lives in Figueira and paints in watercolour, a medium she feels truly captures the light in the Algarve. She mostly paints on location and also specialises in painting flowers, typical to the Algarve.
The exhibition is open from 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm.
