THE ALGARVE’S largest exhibition and conference centre was unofficially inaugurated by various local political figures at a cocktail party, followed by a concert from the Algarve Orchestra on October 21.
A great number of local politicians and business people were invited to ‘test’ the new Pavilhão Arade with a welcome cocktail and presentation by the organisations responsible for the development.
José Inácio, President of Lagoa Câmara, in which the project is located, said: “This is a day of happiness for us all as a dream is being realised”. He also spoke of the importance of the new pavilion in raising the profile of the Arade area.
Design
The project’s architect, Miguel Arruda, explained the main concept behind the design of the building which centred on the idea of solid liquid and gas, as well as the distinction between opaqueness, transparency and translucency. “At night, the building changes with the effects of lighting and the surrounding water,” said Miguel Arruda.
During the course of the evening, António Pina, President of the RTA, the regional tourism board, told the audience that the space was being tested before its first tourism related exhibition but that an official inauguration would follow before the end of the year.
Before a concert by the Algarve Orchestra, representatives from the ExpoArade exhibition centre signed a contract which gives them the right to manage the use of the new pavilion.
