Exciting year for international school

The International School of the Algarve, in Lagoa, has announced “outstanding” exam results at both A Level and IGCSE.

There was a 97% pass rate at A Level and 23% achieved A* or A grade. All the Year 13 students have been accepted into their first choice of university: Johnny Cartucho (Loughborough University, UK, Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Jasmine Freitas (Masaryk University, Czech Republic, Medicine), Tasmin Sillence (Gap Year, applying this year for Medicine), Jill Wijngaard (Webster University, Leiden Netherlands, International Relations), Alice Sanders (Southampton University, UK, Population and Geography), Beau dos Santos (Les Roches University, Spain / Switzerland, Business Administration), Antony Moore (Southampton University, UK, International Relations) and Miguel Xia (University of Sussex, UK, Electronic and Electric Engineering).

In Year 12, 100% of the group achieved above C grade at AS Level, an exceptional set of results with 80% achieving at least two A grades at AS. At IGCSE, students also achieved exceptional results: 75% A* to C grades, with 35% gaining A* and A grades.

A high percentage of these students studied at the school from pre-school at age three through to senior school at age 18.

Miss Best, Head of Pre School, Primary School and Middle School, said: “These exceptional results clearly demonstrate the enormous value that accrues when students experience the consistency of high standard education from Pre School to Senior School.”

A special mention must be made to the three members of the Crook family: Johan in Year 12 achieved four A grades at AS Level; his younger brother Roman gained seven A* and five AS at IGCSE and their sister Gaiana in Year 10 took Portuguese IGCSE two years early gaining an A*.

The school recently announced a partnership with the Barlavento International Primary School and the opening of the only international boarding facility in the Algarve, in Armação de Pêra.
