Examination success for Almancil school

GCSE results at the International School São Lourenço (ISSL) this year were again outstanding.

The school exceeded the UK percentage pass rates at both Grade C – A*, where it achieved 92% compared with the UK’s 69%, and at Grade A-A*, where ISSL gained 37% compared to the UK’s 22%.

ISSL is a non-selective school and enters all of its students for IGCSE and GCSE examinations.

Beverley Stevens, the Head Teacher, said: “These results are a tribute to our teaching staff, who are all very experienced and specialists in their own subjects, and to the students, who, as always, work hard to achieve and exceed their target grades.”

Again, there were exceptional results for some students. Two students in Year 8 both sat the Higher Maths examination and achieved an A* and B respectively.

Students from the sixth form also achieved excellent results, which allowed them to go on to study at their first choice universities. Undine Millere has taken up her place in Holland to study Business Management, Céline Vandycke, who gained 3 A’s at A level, is now studying Law with European Law at Exeter University, whilst other students are taking gap years to travel and gain more experience before going on to university next year.

“The teaching staff are extremely proud of our students, their commitment and enthusiasm and know that they will all be successful in their future,” said Mrs Stevens.
