FOLLOWING THE Resident’s report in the December 1 edition about the Canil São Francisco de Assis animal shelter in Loulé, the AAAA animal charity which runs the centre has been in touch to confirm the success of the appeal and to thank readers.
According to Lieselotte Clauberg-Kranendonk, the founder of the shelter and its managing charity, the number of people visiting the refuge, calling and adopting animals rose after the article appeared.
The charity was delighted that its fundraising events in December, which included a dinner dance and a Christmas market, were both very well attended. “Overall, it was clear that, through the article, awareness was raised of the shelter and its work,” said Lieselotte. “This is something which can help us in the long term.”
More help is still desperately needed though, so if you would like to donate blankets, collars, leads, offer your services to take animals to the vet once a week or once a month or perhaps to make a donation, call 289 416 862, 919 765 600 or visit www.algarvepets.org.
