European Parliament extends Covid Digital Certificate validity to June 2023

Albeit Member States are able to make their own decisions about entry requirements – and many have dropped the need for visitors to show Covid Digital Certificates – the European Parliament has today approved the ‘extension’ of Covid Digital Certificates to June 2023. This means anyone with a valid certificate will be considered ‘cleared’ for travel without needing any further vaccines/ tests. The decision has been taken to “avoid future disproportionate or discriminatory restrictions to free circulation”, say reports. It is now widely accepted that possession of a valid Covid Digital Certificate is relatively meaningless in the context of becoming infected with SARS-CoV- 2, or indeed transmitting the virus to others.
