European No Car day

By SUE HALL

Tavira Câmara supported the European Car Free Day on September 22 as part of European Mobility Week with the theme this year being Alternative Mobility.

Between 8.30am and 1pm the traffic in Tavira was limited with certain streets blocked off. By integrating the celebration of European Car Free Day, the municipality hoped to demonstrate that citizens and local authorities can contribute to the fight against global warming, promoting a change in behaviour regarding the use of certain types of transport, particularly cycling, public transport and car sharing.

There were a series of activities for adults and children which took place in the Republic square in Tavira to mark the occasion including keep fit lessons and health checks.
